This last week, my students could choose one of two topics to write about: a favorite place in Győr, or a childhood memory. Here's a selection of one of each:
"My favorite place is not exactly in Győr, but in Ikrény. Ikrény is a little village next to Győr. So the two places are locked into each other.
There is a cable park, where you can go wakeboarding, water skiing, or simply swimming and enjoy the good weather. I go there almost every day in the summer. Fortunately, it takes a very short time to get there for me. I have gone to the lake for 12 years.
I really like the people there. They are very nice and helpful. A lot of riders come from Austria and Slovakia, because they haven't got such a great line like ours. So there is a very good crowd. I've made lots of friends there.
This year, one of my dreams will come true, namely I am going to work there! I can't wait. It will be fun. It is like a big family, and I am really glad and grateful that I belong there." - Dorisz
"My story happened in 1997, when I was 3 years old. It was a lovely summer day, the sun was shining, there were no clouds in the sky. My sister was a little baby and my brother wasn't born yet. We travelled to Budapest to see the zoo of the capital city. I was a child who always searched for danger, and I found it in the zoo. I wasn't interested in monkeys or tigers, but in the great Indian elephant. However, their cage was large, and they were far from me. So I decided to watch them from a shorter distance. I was little and I could pass through the grating. Fortunately, I wasn't noticed or I didn't annoy them and now I am alive." - Robi
For those reading, what is one of your favorite places or childhood memories? (We read the responses together as a class, so feel free to let us know!)
When I was a child, my family and I often played board games on weekend evenings. My mom's favorite game was Sorry; I think she liked it because it moved quickly. I always wanted to play Monopoly, though no one ever wanted to play that one; I think people think it takes too long to finish. I still love to play games and am always looking for someone to play with me. (And I love to win!) -Suzanne Boxdorfer
ReplyDeleteMy favorite place in Gyor is the little island between the school and the rest of the town. I stopped there often because it was a quiet place with not too many people. I could stop to pray before going home.
ReplyDeleteI remember on my last morning in Gyor, I walked to the island before I left for the airport. I picked up a handful of rocks and put them in my pocket. I prayed that God would never let me forget the lessons I had learned while living in Gyor. And I haven't! :)
And a childhood memory? In second grade I was in the spelling bee. I believed I was a great speller, and I was confident that I would be the winner for my school. I was the first person to be out! My word was "sandwich," and to this day, I still think about how, in the Bee, I put a "t" in the word. I don't spell it incorrectly now!
And Robi, I have also been to the Budapest zoo! I am glad that you are alive and have escaped the Indian elephant! What a scary moment for your parents! I remember spending a long time with the monkeys. I enjoyed watching them, and watching the reactions on other visitors' faces when they watched the monkeys. What silly animals!
ReplyDeleteDear Suzanne,
ReplyDeleteSome of us also enjoy board games like Activity, Uno, Hotel, Catan, and one of us even likes Sorry and Mousetrap. We also like other games like Yatzee :)
Dear Christy,
ReplyDeleteWe also like that little island and often walk around it. We also like that we can enact the scene from Titanic at the end of the island.
It makes me laugh to think of students using the end of the island to act! It sounds exactly like something I would have done. :)
